So I've returned from my trip to New York City and I've had a little time to reflect on Sunday night's show. Just like the album, what can you really say about a show with such an incredible lineup? Seeing the Dirty Projectors and David Byrne share the stage was amazing. Seeing David Byrne do his own thing was amazing. Everytime My Brightest Diamond hit the stage it was amazing. The same holds true for Bon Iver who probably would have won first prize if this was some kind of indie talent show. Watching the National joined by Bon Iver was amazing. Bon Iver would probably win the Indie Rock Sixth Man award for the evening as well since it seemed that he was asked by just about everyone to join them for something. Dave Sitek was ridiculously amazing. Hearing Feist do a Little Wings cover was... you guessed it, amazing. Are you sensing a theme here? This was all before Sharon Jones came out and brought the house down and even that was before the insane Sharonized "This Land Is Your Land" show-closing extravaganza.
I can't think of a better reason to have made my first trip into the hallowed halls of Radio City Music Hall. It was interesting to see the looks on people's faces who, like myself, were walking into the hall for the first time. It's truly a special place. The perfect place for the Dark was the Night show.
So, yeah... the show made for an amazing evening. I'm really glad I decided to make the trip. If you weren't able to make it, keep your fingers crossed that a rumored European date happens and then bite the bullet and fly there for it. It would definitely be worth it.
