Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National have been working on a project called Dark Was The Night that has turned out to be a venerable who's who of the indie rock world. Produced by the Dessner brothers along with John Carlin, the founder of the Red Hot Organization as the executive producer, Dark Was The Night will be released on February 17th, 2009. The album contains 31 tracks and will be available as a double cd, triple vinyl or download. Proceeds from the compilation will benefit the aforementioned Red Hot Organization - an international charity dedicated to raising money and awareness for HIV and AIDS through popular culture.
The album features tracks from Arcade Fire, Spoon, The National, Sufjan Stevens, Feist, Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver, The Decemberists, The Books & Jose Gonzalez, Iron and Wine, My Morning Jacket, Beirut, Cat Power, The New Pornographers, Yo La Tengo and a ton more! One track features a collaboration between the Dirty Projectors and David Byrne. Today gives us a peak into just exactly what their teamwork ended up sounding like. Check it out below.
