Alasdair Roberts Playing Cincinnati Tomorrow

Despite a lack of solid publicity confirming this show was happening, “the Scottish Will Oldham,” Alasdair Roberts, will in fact be playing at the Publico Art Gallery in Over-The-Rhine this Saturday (Dec. 1st) with Houston’s Charalambides opening.  The doors open at 9 pm with tickets going for $8.

If you didn't get tickets to see Robert Pollard at the Southgate House before they sold out, or would just prefer to see this show, it will definitely be worth it.  You can check out the video for "River Rhine" from Alasdair's most recent album The Amber Gatherers below:

Modest Mouse - People As Places As People

New Black Mountain

This is quite an introduction to Black Mountain's new album, In The Future, with the following track entitled "Tyrant" clocking in at just over 8 minutes.  The word "epic" is getting thrown around a lot in regards to the track and for good reason.  The word epic can be defined as, "very imposing or impressive; surpassing the ordinary (especially in size or scale)," which is a perfect description of the song.  It covers a lot of ground stylistically as it meanders between both the Black Mountains and Pink Mountaintops of Mr. McBean's musical landscape.  Give the track a listen while you wait for In The Future to hit the shelves on January 21st.

Two New Songs from Lou Reed

Lou Reed has composed and recorded two brand new songs called “Gravity” and “Safety Zone”.  The songs were both inspired by the new documentary NANKING.  The film documents the story of the Japanese invasion of Nanking, China, in the early days of World War II and the courageous  actions a small group of Westerners took in the face of evil.  "Safety Zone" is my favorite of the two but both songs are great.  You can hear the songs here and see the trailer for the film below.

Daytrotter Sessions - Okkervil River

The always fantastic Okkervil River is featured on Daytrotter this week so be sure to check out the band's story and free songs here.

Uno Moss

Vince Lewandowski (Vince[NT], The Petty Officers) and Peter King (The Impossible Shapes, Buffalino, Wee Giant) have joined forces in their Bloomington, IN laboratory to bring the world Uno Moss!  While they're currently recording music for their second album I figure I should definitely put up something about their first one.  I'd classify the music as somewhere betweeen alt-country and alt-folk but what do I know?  In addition to the following blurb about the band, I'll let the music speak for itself.

Two Indiana men born 26 years prior within only 5 days of each other in an expression of trust & devotion decided in the Fall of 2006 to begin documenting the sounds of their playful labor...UNO MOSS invites you to participate in a thought experiment they devised now known only as 'The Slow Rise & Hard Fall' which they set to music and sang in hopes of befriending & entertaining (you). UNO MOSS politely asks your permission for access to wherever your sense of wonder resides, whether in the sleepy cavernous womb of a windowless basement or in the forefront of your frontal lobe's fortunate fort...Peter King & Vincent Lewandowski offer you a patch of metaphorical moss to plant under your dark energy brain tree.
