The Dirty Jobs

Mike Myers is finally set to play Keith Moon in a movie about the Who drummer who totally stuck to his guns on the whole, "Hope I die before I get old" thing.  (via goldenfiddle)

Supergroup Alert!!!

This is Army of Anyone, featuring Filter's Richard Patrick on vocals, Dean and his bassist brother Robert DeLeo from Stone Temple Pilots and Ray Luzier, from David Lee Roth's band, on drums.

The Fragile

Nine Inch Nails has had to postpone dates on their tour for the second time because drummer Jerome Dillon has been admitted to a Los Angeles hospital.  He'll be undergoing treatment and tests for a recently-discovered, unspecified heart condition.  Trent made the announcement yesterday on the band's website.  Get Well Soon!

New SPOON song on the way

From the SPOON website:

We had a couple days off last week between Australia and Europe, so we recorded a new song called "My First Time Volume 3." Recorded and mixed with Mike McCarthy in 36 hours or so, it's the first song collaboratively written by Britt Daniel and Eric Harvey. It'll be up on itunes soon but please, listen to it in your car or at a party, not just on your computer! Eric says it sounds best on cassette.

Home4Speaking of SPOON, I picked up Home, Vol. 4 today which is part of the excellent series Post-Parlo records has been putting out.  This volume features Bright Eyes and Britt Daniel.  The split CD series is going to be a total of 10 releases and has been great so far.  If you have $90 burning a hole in your pocket you can buy a subscription and get each upcoming volume of the 10 volume series, as well as a special 11th volume available to subscribers only.

Free Music is Free Music

Harvey Danger of "Flagpole Sitta" fame have decided to give their new album "Little by Little" away for free.  I'm in the process of listening to it now and it sounds pretty good so far.  Maybe this is because it's free, maybe it's because it's good.  The best part is you can judge for yourself  free of charge.

Why are they doing this?

The short answer is simply that we want a lot of people to hear the record. At the risk of sounding Pollyanna-ish, making records has never been about making money for this band. If the worst thing that happens is a whole bunch of people hear Little By Little… and no one buys it, we’ll know our experiment was costly. But that won’t make it a failure.

Hey, works for me.  Their strategy is obviously working, I mean...people know they have a new record out now don't they?  More power to them!

Born to Boogie

BorntoboogieI have yet to get my fill of this DVD.  If you are in anyway a fan of Marc Bolan and T. Rex and don't have this yet... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!  The chance to see Marc perform live in front of a crowd at Wembley Arena and also with fellow stars Ringo Starr and Elton John, in the basement of the Beatles' London offices, makes this a must have.

As this fantastic Ringo Starr-directed concert film from 1972 makes abundantly clear, Marc Bolan's main achievement was to demonstrate that you could actually make pubescent girls wee their pants with excitement by writing brilliant songs, playing loud, raucous electric guitar, looking great, and having a superb band.

In a live setting, stripped of producer Tony Visconti's distinctive textured ambience, songs like Get it On are transformed into tribal rock freak-outs.

"I still remember the excitement felt when I first heard Modest Mouse more than a decade ago. At the time, my friend and I talked about how it sounded like this or like that or whatever, but beneath the snobbery and geeky influence-detecting, we were excited, and so obviously into what the band was doing. If given the chance, Wolf Parade should engender similar scenarios: In a few years, other folks will still remember where they were when they first heard Apologies to the Queen Mary."
